Searching for love
By Katelyn McGlown
Through a window a lonely puppy peers.
He has no home, and no one to tell of his fears.
He looks for someone to love, and to be loved.
Yet no one cares, and farther into the streets he’s shoved.
He forever remains alone, does no one care?
Or will life remain to treat him unfair?
Wandering the streets, he watches as life goes by.
No one spares him a second glance, and it breaks
His heart as he wishes he would just die.
He was going to die anyway.
Whether it would be from the cold
Or other things untold.
Why make a broken soul suffer more?
Thriving alone is the hardest chore.
He’s unwanted, and unloved.
Everyday he prays to the heaven above.
For someone to love.
Day by day he continues to search
And everyday he’s left broken hearted.
He’s ready to quit the hopeless thing he’d even started.
He was foolish to think he’d find what he most desired.
Love was the only thing he’d ever truly admired.
The puppy was meant to be alone.
For this be continues to walk down the street.
If only the puppy had turned around….
He would have found a lonely little boy
Following at the puppy’s feet.
If only the puppy knew there was love all along.
If only the puppy knew he was wrong.
This poem is written by my best friend in Ohio; Katelyn. I met her when I was in eighth grade. When I met her, I was a transferred student and we became best friends and spend wonderful one year in America. As I get to know her, I realized that she is a great poet. She is also a very creative writer. When I left Ohio, she gave me a folder full of poems and letters. This is one of the poems that were in the folder she gave to me. This is my favorite poem in the folder. I really admire her and therefore I used this poem to post it on my blog.

Title: Searching for love
Paraphrase: This poem is basically about a stray puppy who wants to find someone to love and be loved. Despite of his hard work and searching, no one cares and he doesn’t find anyone to love. He feels despair and at the end he is about to give up. However if he just turned around and saw the lonely boy who was also trying to find someone to love, it would have been a great happy ending. Well unfortunately the puppy never figured the boy out.
Connotation: The author used some end rhymes. Also use personification to show the puppy’s emotion. Puppies usually don’t think that complicated. Personally I think puppy can symbolize the people in the world who want to find their love.
Attitude: The author tone is gloomy and sad through out the whole poem. Yet at the same time, it remains calm. I can feel the quiet sorrow through out the poem. At the end the twist really made me deplore. I really wanted the puppy to be happy.
Shift: There isn’t really any shift in this poem; the poem remained the same sad and gloomy mood through out the whole poem.
Title: The love never found.
Theme: desire of love and care
When I read this poem I really wanted to be the little boy and hold the puppy from the ground and take it home.
