Journey of the wind
© By Grethel Haviland

The wind winds its way over gurgling streams
And ripples onto forest floors
It peeks at creatures fast asleep
And gallantly let's them slumber
But mischievously shakes the trees above
And gather their blossoms and flee

It ruffles the feathers of fowl and eagles
And treads the mountain peaks
Then it swiftly climbs, to give the skies a kiss
It passes over fields of corn
And farmsteads nestled among trees
Barn doors and windows rattle shrilly
and wave to the wind as it goes

It whirls around and over townships
Stirs dust clouds from their beds
It claims to make the church bell ring
And cause the phone lines to sway

Over ponds it travels - where ducks and geese play
And old folks tending to their feed
Children running, handballs rising
Oh! how the wind puffs with glee

Lovers in the moonlight mouth promises
Praise the wind as it cools their ardent kisses
So they can start again
The wind puffs and leaves them the couples swooning

Passing tenement buildings embraced in concrete yards
It sets dumpsters flying against graffiti walls
And whips the mangy dogs that howl throughout the night

Into dark tunnels after trains it hurries
And out to the open seas
There it travels and moisture drinks till it is ready to sleep

Title
The title of this poem immediately gave me the image of the wind’s journey. The title helped me to easily predict the poem’s main theme. I think the title really fits the poem.
Paraphrase
The whole poem talks about the journey that wind takes. It shows how the wind moves place to place and
Connotation
Imagery: This poem is full of great imagery. It describes every action the wind takes as it travels. Through out the whole poem, it shows how wind travels along the world. The scene of the poem changes as the stanza changes. The author really described the scene so beautiful it feels like you are in the middle of the scene. It felt like I was traveling along with the wind. I think the imagery was the best part of this poem.
Personification: The author personifies the wind and therefore I could actually view a better picture of the scene. For example, the author describes when the wind flies up to the sky; it says the wind kisses the sky. Winds don’t really kiss anything, however by using a personification the author indicates that the wind went very high that it touched the sky. Also at the first stanza the part where it says the wind gathers the blossom and flees shows a good personification. It describes the wind as a small naughty boy playing around and running away for fun. I thought this whole poem used a great personification till the end.
Attitude
The general mood of this poem is peaceful and flowing. There aren’t any conflicts that wind faces through its journey. As I read through this poem, I didn’t really feel any heavy mood in this poem. I could stay in a light hearted mood when I was reading this poem. Unlike poems related to life, death and love, this poem feels like if it is giving me a relaxation. Personally I really liked this poem because it helped me to calm my complicated head.
Shift
There isn’t any big shift in this poem, however as the wind travels to the different place, the setting changes and therefore it gives some renewing mood. This poem maintains the peaceful mood and carries out to the end of the poem.
Theme
The theme of this poem is the wind’s circulation. It shows how wind travels through out the whole world. It also shows the beauty of nature by describing the scene of the different region.
Title
When I first read the title I though it totally fitted with the poem. When I read the whole poem several times, I got a new idea for this poem’s title. Personally I think the author described the wind as a traveler and therefore I made a new title for this poem. “Traveler with no destination” is the title that I came up with. Because winds do not stop in one place and stay there forever, I thought there was no final destination for them.

Searching for love
By Katelyn McGlown
Through a window a lonely puppy peers.
He has no home, and no one to tell of his fears.
He looks for someone to love, and to be loved.
Yet no one cares, and farther into the streets he’s shoved.
He forever remains alone, does no one care?
Or will life remain to treat him unfair?
Wandering the streets, he watches as life goes by.
No one spares him a second glance, and it breaks
His heart as he wishes he would just die.
He was going to die anyway.
Whether it would be from the cold
Or other things untold.
Why make a broken soul suffer more?
Thriving alone is the hardest chore.
He’s unwanted, and unloved.
Everyday he prays to the heaven above.
For someone to love.
Day by day he continues to search
And everyday he’s left broken hearted.
He’s ready to quit the hopeless thing he’d even started.
He was foolish to think he’d find what he most desired.
Love was the only thing he’d ever truly admired.
The puppy was meant to be alone.
For this be continues to walk down the street.
If only the puppy had turned around….
He would have found a lonely little boy
Following at the puppy’s feet.
If only the puppy knew there was love all along.
If only the puppy knew he was wrong.

This poem is written by my best friend in Ohio; Katelyn. I met her when I was in eighth grade. When I met her, I was a transferred student and we became best friends and spend wonderful one year in America. As I get to know her, I realized that she is a great poet. She is also a very creative writer. When I left Ohio, she gave me a folder full of poems and letters. This is one of the poems that were in the folder she gave to me. This is my favorite poem in the folder. I really admire her and therefore I used this poem to post it on my blog.

TPCASTT
Title: Searching for love
Paraphrase: This poem is basically about a stray puppy who wants to find someone to love and be loved. Despite of his hard work and searching, no one cares and he doesn’t find anyone to love. He feels despair and at the end he is about to give up. However if he just turned around and saw the lonely boy who was also trying to find someone to love, it would have been a great happy ending. Well unfortunately the puppy never figured the boy out.
Connotation: The author used some end rhymes. Also use personification to show the puppy’s emotion. Puppies usually don’t think that complicated. Personally I think puppy can symbolize the people in the world who want to find their love.
Attitude: The author tone is gloomy and sad through out the whole poem. Yet at the same time, it remains calm. I can feel the quiet sorrow through out the poem. At the end the twist really made me deplore. I really wanted the puppy to be happy.
Shift: There isn’t really any shift in this poem; the poem remained the same sad and gloomy mood through out the whole poem.
Title: The love never found.
Theme: desire of love and care

When I read this poem I really wanted to be the little boy and hold the puppy from the ground and take it home.

Poetry

Yellow EyesJoan L. Van Vels

We've roamed the wild countryMy beautiful yellow eyes,Side by side we've huntedShadows dancing on northern skies.
There have been times of plentyWe were content and serene,Peacefully sleepingDangers few and far between.
We've also known much hungerRibs protruding from each side,Mournfully we howledWhen our starving cubs had died.
And then there was our first winterRomping thru the glistening snow,Tasting each crystal snowflakeFalling gently to and fro.
Ah my dear, sweet yellow eyesI've known no greater love,Without you, I am nothingOur wild souls are one.
And now you lay there dyingSteel jaws upon your frame,Life's blood slowly seepingI whimper your sweet name.
Helpless, I watch you struggleChest heaving with labored breath,Steel jaws clenching tighterWinds whisper the song of death.
The blood has now stopped flowingI know the time is near,And you will forever leave meMy love, my life, my dear.
And now my world is silentYour struggles now have ceased,I lay my head upon youAnd know you are at peace.
Perhaps your soul has liftedTo skies where eagles soar,And there you'll greet your brothersTo run with them forever more.
And someday I shall find youIn the heaven's so far above,And when our wild soul's uniteThere'll be no greater love.

This weekend it took me forever to choose a poem that I wanted to post. Instead of choosing a poem about life or death, I decided to choose a poem about a wolf. When I was in eighth grade, I had a friend who was obsessed in wolves. Because of her, I started to get interest in wolves and today I figured out it would be great to post a poem about wolf.

I like this poem because it shows the life of a wolf. I like how the author described the wolves. I love that the author used personification to show a clear image for a wolf's life. This poem is like a short story of a wolf's life and that is why I like it. At the end, the wolf dies alone and it seems so sad and lonely. While reading this poem I could actually picture this wolf's life. First, with joy and happiness, living it's life with whole effort and in the end all the traces all gone with it's death. It was so sad at the end yet I loved this poem because the wordings were beautiful detailed.
